Week 30

So this is my first official blog post on my own blog. I plan on moving all of my previous posts here as well. Unfortunately, I have not been able to keep up with crossfitting over the past 2 months. It just got too hard to try and do most of the moves as well as the fact that the round ligament pain I've been experiencing was just too much. I hope to get back to it as soon as I can after having the baby. These days I can barely take the dogs for a walk without being in pain or having to sit down to rest. It kinda sucks. I've also noticed that bending over, going up the stairs, or just walking to my car in the parking garage at work have become harder and harder. Pretty much everything I do takes a lot more effort than before. I've also had a lot of swelling in my feet/ankles. Yes, the cankles have arrived. I can usually get the swelling to go down if I drink a ton of water and prop up my feet. I've also had horrible heart burn. My doctor told me I could take prilosec and zantac, so I've started taking those together this week and it seems to be working. I just hope it keeps working, because that is miserable!

Since I posted last, things have been going really well. At my last doctor's visit, I had to do the glucose test which was not fun. You basically have to drink this really sugary drink a hour before your visit so they can draw your blood. I hate having my blood drawn so I was not looking forward to it. The nurse couldn't get any blood out of the first arm she tried so she moved on to the next one. Since I can't watch, I had my head turned away and all I heard was "oh sh*t". This is not something you want to hear when there is a needle in your arm! Apparently, the vial shot off of the needle and across the room. Ryan got a kick out of it, but it scared me to death. Fortunately, I didn't hear back from them after the test which means I passed and don't have to do the three hour test! I have another appointment tomorrow and then I will start going every two weeks until 36 weeks. At 36 weeks I will start going weekly. It's hard to believe there are only 9 weeks left until my due date!

This week we had a 3D ultrasound. Originally I had heard they were really expensive so we decided not to get one. However, we found a place that does them for $60 on Monday during the day so we decided to give it a try. It was amazing. I couldn't believe how clear the image was and how much you could see. In the 2D version, the ultrasound tech said the baby already has a lot of hair. The placenta and cord were in the way of her face a little in the print-outs we received, but they were still really good. Seeing her made things even more real. There really is a little person in there and I can't wait to meet her.

STL Baby Shower

Last weekend I had a baby shower in St. Louis. It was hosted by three of my good college friends and sorority sisters, Maureen, Lynn, and Katie. Katie even came into town from Chicago for the occasion. It was a small group of people, but we had a great time. The decorations, favors and food were all fantastic.

I got a lot of wonderful gifts as well as advice. Instead of cards, the invitation suggested the guests bring bibs. We got a ton of great bibs and should be set for awhile. At least I hope so!

Lynn's husband, Kris, painted some wooden letters that spell out Isla's name and they are beautiful. We hung them on the door of her nursery.

Even though it's been almost 11 years since we became KDs, some things just never get old!!!

Thank you to everyone who came. Isla is going to love all of the gifts! I can't wait for her to meet you all!

Week 23 & 24

Week 23& 24 The baby now weighs more than 1 1/2 lbs and is about the length of a standard letter. The baby's face is almost fully formed now just without all the baby fat she will have at birth. Her weight should double over the next four weeks. I sometimes feel like mine is doing the same!

I had a doctor visit this past Thursday. The doctor said my blood pressure is good and the baby's heartbeat is strong. I have been experiencing some brutal round ligament pain. Basically anytime I get up, roll over in bed, walk, or move in general I feel like I have pulled a stomach muscle. I took a week off from Crossfit to see if it would help. I do feel better now and plan on going back this week. I talked to my doctor and she basically said there isn't much you can do or not do to make it better, but that it will go away eventually. Only to be replaced by other pains and symptoms.

The nursery is getting closer to being finished. We got the wallpaper up this weekend and painted as well. It is supposed to look like bead board. While it is not quite the same, it still looks pretty good. The picture above was taken in the nursery. Now we are just waiting on the furniture to arrive. It should be here by the end of March, and then we can finish gathering the art and shelves that we plan on putting up. Since we don't have room for a bookcase, we want to have plenty of shelves on the walls for books and displaying other items.

I made it to the gym twice during week 23 and took off during week 24.

WODs Tuesday 2/8/11 - 4 Rounds for Time 250 M row 15 TTB (subbed pull-ups with green band) Time 14:02

Thursday 2/10/11 150 KB swings @35lbs I used a 20lb KB and did this in 8:05

Week 21

This week the baby is about the size of a large banana. The baby is also developing taste buds. She actually swallows some of the amniotic fluid each day so she tastes what I’m eating. I’ve read this can actually shape what she will develop a taste for later in life. So she will probably really like Oreos since I’ve been eating those quite a bit lately. She still has plenty of room to move around and has been doing just that. I can feel a lot of flutters lately, but still nothing from the outside. I know Ryan is anxious to feel her kick since right now I can only describe it to him when it happens.

We have been working on getting the nursery put together. So far we have painted the top part of the walls green, and Ryan has installed the chair-rail that will go above the bead board. My dad is visiting in a few weeks and he is going to help install and paint the bead board wallpaper. This past Sunday we made a trip to Kansas City to order a chair from Nebraska Furniture Mart and have lunch with Ryan’s sister and her husband. Normally we wouldn’t drive all the way to KC to order a chair, but Ryan promised me lunch at Blanc Burger in the Plaza! If you have the chance, you should go! It is awesome. They have gourmet burgers, cheese curds, and amazing truffle fries. Saturday night was Rochelle’s baby shower and it was a blast. I got a lot of cute ideas for my upcoming baby showers.

With my work schedule still being a little weird, I only got to the gym on Wednesday last week. This was the WOD: "Swingers"5 Rounds for Time25 KB Swings(53/35)25 MB Sit Ups(20/13) Since I usually do KB swings in place of sit-ups, Sarah suggested that I do push-ups on a bar instead and that worked out well. My arms felt like jello by the end, but I finished.

Week 20

Ok, I’m going to try to cram the last two weeks into this blog since I’m behind. I’ve been working some crazy hours at work lately. I think I’ve worked the past 14 days straight and usually 12 hours/day. So making it to the gym hasn’t really happened. I think I made it once in the past two weeks. I’m a little scared about going back because I know it will be hard, but I’m excited to have time to exercise because I feel so much better when I do.

We had the 20 week ultrasound scheduled for Thursday and of course we got over 8 inches of snow Wednesday night. It took over an hour to get there, but we made it to the appointment. However, the ultrasound tech did not. My doctor made it in so we had the regular appointment with her. I think she could tell that I might just throw a temper-tantrum in the office, so she did a quick ultrasound to determine the gender. It’s a GIRL!!! I am so excited! We were able to reschedule the ultrasound for the next day. I have to say it was really cool. They had a huge flat screen TV that you watched and since the whole thing was recorded, it could even be replayed like a DVR! I loved getting to see her move around, and she was even sucking her thumb at one point. Our ultrasound tech was worth waiting for. She would explain everything we were looking at and what she was measuring and why. She let us know that everything looks just like it should, and she didn’t see anything that was cause for concern. This was the best news we could have hoped for. The ultrasound tech also said that the placenta is basically sitting between the baby and my belly so it will be awhile before I feel any kicks. I’ve been pretty tired, but I think that has more to do with the long hours than with being pregnant. Other than that, I’ve felt pretty good lately. For those of you who need a fruit size comparison (MG), she is now about the size of a small cantaloupe with a crown to rump measurement of around 6 1/2 inches.

The one day I made it to the gym in the past two weeks:

1/12/2010 "Slam One Down"AMRAP in 7 min Slam Balls(20)

Pick the ball up just like a clean, keep back straight & show ears!

It’s been so long, that I had to look back on the website to see what the last WOD was that I did! This one didn’t seem so bad until I got into it. I get out of breath really quickly now and this took it out of me. I think I did around 75. Once I got tired, I would try to do 10 at a time and then rest for a few seconds.

Week 18

The baby is now about the size of a sweet potato. The baby can yawn and hiccup, and his/her nervous system is continuing to develop. The baby’s hearing is also becoming more acute.

From what I’ve read, back pain can start kicking in around now, but so far so good on that one. I can tell that my back is starting to arch and my stomach stick out more though. The receptionist and my office finally just came out and asked if I was preggo. I should have said no ;) just to see how fast she could back track on that one! I can tell that I have more energy now which is nice. I would like to get a lot of stuff done before the third trimester when I’ve heard it will go away. We have purchased furniture for the nursery from Treasure Rooms in Chesterfield. If you are expecting, I highly suggest checking it out. They have the cutest stuff I’ve ever seen! I did get the nursery closet cleaned out and we purchased a closet organizer. I also purchased baby girl crib bedding because the set I liked was on sale. So I’ll have to wait two more weeks to see if I will be sending it back or not. I hope not! Some other exciting news, I’m pretty sure I felt the baby move this week. Friday morning as I was sitting at my desk I felt a little rumble, but my stomach didn’t hurt so I’m thinking it was the baby. This weekend I felt it again several times. Ryan also felt the slight movements even from outside my belly.

Well I actually made to the 6am class twice this week!

Wednesday WOD – Big Baller 3 Rounds for time 30 medicine ball cleans – 8lbs 30 wall balls – 8 lbs Last two rounds were 15 of each. – 15 min This really wore me out quickly. Squats have always been hard for me, but after only a few med ball cleans, my hips were really hurting.

Friday WOD 10 Rounds- 45 seconds on 15 seconds rest of double-unders. I still can’t do double-unders, but that has nothing to do with being preggo. I’m just completely uncoordinated. Luckily most of the other people in class were in the same boat. We practiced DU’s for 5 minutes and then just jumped rope for the WOD. I believe my highest in a row was 45. I still feel fine jumping, but I’m sure that will change soon.

Week 17

Since I missed last week, I will try to recap both weeks.

Baby

During week 16 the bones in the baby’s ears are developing along with the backbone and back muscles. The baby can hear what is going on in the world around him/her. Ryan insists on talking to the baby through my belly button. I think he is convinced that is a more “direct” way to talk to the baby. The baby can also hear the dogs barking and probably my cat, Sashimi, purring when she sits on top of me. I hope the baby gets used to the barking now so he/she will sleep through it later! I also can’t wait for the baby to start kicking and kick Sashimi while she is sitting on my belly. During week 17 the baby’s eyes can now perceive light and his/her fingertips are developing fingerprints. The baby is now the size of my open hand (around 5 inches) or about the size of a large onion.

Me

I’ve pretty much felt the same the past two weeks. A little tired with the activity of the holidays and traveling to see family. Physically, I’ve felt fine, but I have definitely been moody. Last week I was in a bad mood most of the week for no real reason. I don’t feel nauseous as much and have my appetite back. I’ve gained about 10 lbs so far, which the doctor said was right on track. I can still wear some of my regular clothes with the Bella band like the grey ones in the picture above. But they are getting tighter and tighter. I got several Motherhood maternity gift cards for Christmas so I think I will need to start spending those soon.

Workouts

I only made it to the gym twice in the last two weeks

1. ANGIE For Time100 Pull-Ups100 Push-Ups100 Sit-Ups100 Squats

I used the green band for the pull-ups, did push-ups on a bar, and subbed kettle bell swings for the sit-ups. This is one of those WODs that when I see it posted, I wonder how I will ever finish. Somehow with scaling and support of everyone at TNT, I always manage to get it done (eventually).

2. Row 5k for time – 29:50

I didn’t need to scale anything on this WOD. However, I tried to just take it slow. I know that I need to be able to talk during the workouts so I made myself stop and take breaks throughout. My goal now is to get up and work out in the mornings since I know I will not be able to leave work early enough to go to the evening classes. I’m hoping that writing it here will make me keep to it! It’s just so hard to get up at 5:30am when it is cold and dark outside…
